Job Information

Pentagon Group has immediate openings for experienced HFC Technicians to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. Candidates must have experience with troubleshooting and repairing basic distribution problems associated with RF and AC elements, installing, and replacing HFC physical plant network components such as coax, its actives, passives, grounding systems, and pedestals according to technical specifications. Candidates must be able to read and accurately interpret network plans, equipment schematics and locates on site. A strong safety conduct is required as safety is a key to our success!

Responsibilities and Experience

  • As directed, trouble shoot, isolate faults, complete cutovers and reinstate network plant to meet technical specifications; regularly test all HFC network components using test equipment including signal level meters, volt-ohm meters, leakage detector, Time Domain Reflector (TDR), Underground fault locator, and other related test equipment.
  • Document and maintain accurate records to all repairs performed each shift including time worked, materials used, daily logs as required; properly record all required information on data devices and/or work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
  • Operate company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner. Clean, maintain stock and secure assigned vehicle and equipment, in accordance with company policies.
  • Resolve system outages as directed-May be required to be “ON-CALL”

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of HFC technician experience

Safety certificates (First Aid, WAH, Confined Space)

Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time)

Commitment to a safe work culture

  • Effectively operate the HydroVac truck for daylighting (exposing/unearthing)

Essential Responsibilities

  • Shipping and receiving of all deliveries.
  • Advise appropriate person(s) when stock has been received.
  • Ship stock to other branches and customer sites as required.
  • Work with Project Management and Construction teams to ensure all project orders are complete for staging.
  • Stage materials for technician pick-up, project installation, and delivery to customer sites.
  • Monitor consumption of consumable items and maintain stock items.

  • Ensure all vehicles are kept clean and safe operating conditions are maintained.
  • Schedule maintenance work for all company vehicles.

  • Secure buildings and yard at the end of your shift, ensuring that all lights are off, equipment and material put away in an organized manner; gate locked and required vehicles are plugged-in during winter months.
  • Be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally between workers and, supervisors about health and safety concerns.
  • Investigate and report workplace injuries and incidents, including recommendation to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Relay required safety information to all employees.
  • Complete internal audits as required.
  • Complete hazard assessments of all Division job functions.
  • Contribute positively to creating a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitoring the site to ensure all workers are following safe working practices.
  • Conducting investigations when necessary.
  • Help develop safe work procedures and utilization of proper protective equipment and practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Shipping/Receiving role, preferably in the telecom industry.
  • Experience with coordinating Fleet, including CVOR requirements.

  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations.

Job Information

Pentagon Group is currently seeking to hire responsible and reliable Fibre Splicer Technicians. The ideal candidates are individuals with minimum 3 years of fibre splicing experience, who enjoy working outdoors and who are not afraid of physical labour.

Experience:

Previous experience on Rogers, Cogeco and Bell Networks in fiber optic splicing and testing in an inside and outside plant environment

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of fibre optic projects and as-builts.
  • Read and interpret splice assignments and maps.
  • OTDR & iOLM testing, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Sound knowledge of HFC and Fibre Optic Networks.
  • Familiarity with various splice enclosures, how to operate them and how to access them from confined spaces, vaults and/or aerial strands.
  • Build new splice enclosures and or add new cables to existing enclosures for cable size 6 FOC to 864 FOC.
  • Fusion Splice Outside Plant.
  • Fusion Splice inside existing buildings and new construction MDU.
  • Structured cabling required for building splice enclosures (LCP/NAP).
  • Install splice boxes, patch panels and fibre terminations.
  • Use of test equipment and fault locators required.
  • Auditing OSP Enclosures.
  • Follow all relevant and required health and safety measures.
  • Maintain onsite safety documentation.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Work at heights near hydro and within confined spaces.
  • Must be able to carry and also climb a 28 foot extension ladder weighing 80 lbs.
  • Will set up and work safely on high traffic roads according to Book 7 standards.
